The weather can't make up its mind today. This morning brought cool temperatures, a lightly overcast sky, and some hints of rain. When Jonathan and I went out this afternoon, dressed in fleece and sweatshirts, the sun had warmed up Pasadena quite a bit. That's one thing that I love and will miss about So Cal weather--no matter what the forecast, there is always a chance of sunshine. So, after our Trader Joe's errand, what better way to celebrate the sunshine than with Ice Blended drinks from the Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf? CBTL drinks have been my favorites since college, when a big group of us from Malibu Pres made a tradition of heading down to the Malibu Colony after church and enjoying "blendeds" over conversation and laid back beach culture.
We've gotten blended drinks for Jonathan in the past, but it's a bit of a Jekyll and Hyde experience. In a few slurps, he transforms from a calm, sweet child into a goopy-faced, sticky-fingered, Tourette Syndrome child, who runs all over the place and lets out wild screams of madness at random intervals. So this time, since we were pushing his nap schedule anyway, I asked for a little whipped cream in a cup. He enjoyed it on the short ride home, and fell asleep peacefully by the time I pulled into the garage. Ahhh, much better!
At Trader Joe's (before CBTL), the sunlight was so bright that Jonathan couldn't look at the camera for a picture. People must think it's cute to see a dad and son out grocery shopping together. Everyone gave such huge smiles to our sweet boy and me. Jonathan was beside himself with all the yummy stuff that I was putting into the cart. "Grapes! Graaaaaapes! Open?! OPEN?!" No, sweetheart. We have to wait until we get home. "Banana? Baaa-na-na? Want a banana!" OK, after we pay, I'll give one to you. He was quite happy to get a banana, finally, after we got back in the car. Waiting is such a pain when you're two!
