Flashback :: Washington's Snowmageddon 2012 (pt II)

After our beautiful day in the snow, we had planned on departing only a couple of days later. Little did we know what we were in for. The next morning we work up to Icemageddon! The snow was covered in a good 1/4-1/2" of solid ice. The ground, car, trees, shrubs, flowers . . . everything was encased in ice! It was magical to see, but not exactly safe for traveling. So, we stayed put and took in the sights.

And of course, we headed back outside for more fun in the snow ice. Jonathan was thrilled! Now he could chew on the ice just like he loves to do at home! :) This was a little more tricky, but he finally figured it out. Of course, it ended up making his face completely rosy. It lasted all day!

Good thing Uncle Gary came to the rescue. He brought over Jonathan's very first Twinkie. Let me preface this by saying that Jonathan rarely, if ever, gets junk food. He doesn't eat many sweets, zero processed foods, no soda, candy, high fructose corn syrup. He's a clean eater! Needless to say, he's an American kid. And even clean-eating kids need to have a first Twinkie. :) He was so excited about it. Surprisingly, though, he didn't really enjoy it and didn't even finish it. Guess he's a fan of clean, whole food after all! :) So proud of him.

And last, but certainly not least, our original reason for visiting UP was to celebrate Uncle Gary's birthday! Jonathan loved helping blow out the candles, open presents, and devour the carrot cupcakes! He is the hugest fan of his uncle, so he was super excited to celebrate him. He sang the Happy Birthday song loud and clear. Mommy thinks Uncle Gary is pretty cool, too. :)

Even though our visit ended up being much longer than originally planned, we loved every minute of it. Making memories in the snow, admiring the beauty and power of the ice, and celebrating a loved one's birthday sure makes for a super fun visit! Now we can't wait until we can visit everyday! :)
