Flashback :: Washington's Snowmageddon 2012 (pt I)

When news hit that the Puget Sound region was going to be hit with a major snowstorm . . . the biggest one since the '80s — a certain Snowmageddon, Jonathan and Mommy hit the road and headed north for an adventure! Through rain, sleet, snow, and wind we fought our way north just in time for the calm before the storm. We got to UP late on Tuesday and waited (im)patiently for the snow to hit. While Jonathan slept, Mommy, Gamma, and Uncle Gary waited up and watched it roll in across the water. What a sight it was! By the time we went to bed we already had three inches. We awoke to this:

It was absolutely beautiful! An easy 7 to 10 inches of gorgeous white snow covered the area. Jonathan couldn't wait to get out and explore. He didn't even want to wait until he was dressed, so we opened the door and gathered some fresh snow to make a snow cone! We also let Sherman out, who was less than thrilled at the white stuff. He was hilarious to watch and ended up taking refuge under our car.

We quickly got ready, bundled up, and headed out for our day in the snow. Jonathan looked a bit like the kid in "A Christmas Story," but at least he was warm! :) He couldn't wait to make snow angels, snowballs, and snowmen. Unfortunately, it was the wrong snow for a snowman, and he could barely pick up his feet enough to get through the snow, so he kept falling!

The yard was breathtaking. I couldn't help but snap lots and lots of photos. The world was silent and absolutely beautiful. We don't see this kind of snow around the Puget Sound often, so it is such a treat when we do.

Gampa and Jonathan quickly made their way down to the street for some fun on the saucer. Jonathan LOVED being pulled around behind his Gampa and he really didn't want the fun to end. He loved going as fast as possible and sliding father than we could pull him. He had the hugest smile on his face as he went whizzing by, and I could tell that my little man was falling in as deep of love with snow as his mama.

Though we didn't end up spending the whole day outside (Jonathan was drenched from all of his play and sliding), we did make the most of it. Jonathan even found a chance to stick more in his mouth . . . his favorite thing to do with snow! Don't worry . . . I told him to watch out for yellow snow. ;)

After an exhausting and cold afternoon of play, we headed in for some hot cocoa . . . Jonathan's favorite! He wasted no time at all working his way toward the bottom of his mug. What a sight he was! He thought he was so hilarious. One of my favorite shots of the day . . . the Sorels lined up by the door. All of a sudden it felt like we were in an L.L. Bean catalog! :)

I am so glad we were adventurers and traveled through the storm to enjoy the snow. It was the perfect winter day. We had no idea what was in store for us next.

(. . . to be continued . . .)
