Spring Break 2010 - Day 8

It's hard to follow Easter, and this year's was one of the best ever. As I mentioned earlier, there was no assigned seating this year, so we got to the Bowl early and had plenty of time to get our box all set up, chat with staff members and other friends, and get a few pics of Jonathan playing with Joshy. As Christine mentioned, the morning was glorious. I loved being part of something so special--using the Hollywood Bowl for its intended purpose (it was built specifically for Easter sunrise services), and celebrating God's love, sacrifice, and hope for us with people across the earth and over two thousand years of history. All of that time outside in the morning, followed by our Easter egg hunt in the chilly, windy afternoon made for an exhausted family by the end of the day.

Day 8, then, was pretty mellow. Christine went back to work, but it was sort of like teachers going back to school after the kids have gone home for the year. Jonathan had play time with Daddy and Gamma. Continuing the Spring Break 2010 tradition, I made snow for him, and gave him another frozen toy for his bath.

"Here, Daddy." It's one of his favorite sayings. He handed each piece to me after he wrestled it free from the ice block. And he took any opportunity to break off pieces of ice to suck on. Considering that the ice was made with LA tap water, I was surprised that he didn't spit it out. Apparently, his love of ice supersedes the quality of the source water. When we make snow, I always use ice from filtered water, by the way!

Oh--one more story from the day. Gampa thought that it would be a fun treat to give malted milk balls to Jonathan in the later morning hours. After his initial derangement, Jonathan seemed to be getting mellow and ready for a nap, so I got busy preparing a quick lunch. While I was doing that, Gamma took him outside to play. Suddenly, his energy was back, and I waited way past his nap time to bring him inside, kicking and screaming. When he finally finished his lunch, I took him upstairs for his nap. Gamma and Gampa were in the guest room next door, and Gampa was up to his usual coming and going like a herd of elephants running up and down the stairs. Between the malt balls, outside time, belated nap, and noise next door, Jonathan decided to spend the first hour of his nap time completely awake, banging his feet against his crib railing and chatting up a storm. Daddy's concentration on school work or anything else was shot, as the baby monitor seemed especially keen on picking up banging noises and magnifying them tenfold. Having been exhausted myself, I had planned on sneaking into our room after Jonathan was asleep and catching a nap myself. But that wasn't meant to be. I kept debating whether to just get Jonathan out of his crib and give him an early bed time or try to wait out his banging and chatting. He finally went to sleep, but I was too nervous to go back into our room, for fear that he would wake up and start the banging all over again. Ahh. Gotta love off-schedule toddlers and their enabling grandparents! Oh well. At least his schedule and food disruptions were based in love.
