Flashback: Ghiradelli Square & SF Driving Tour

Don't you love that face? We do! Just like his Daddy, JD doesn't seem to tan any darker than two shades past Design Studio White. He loved the SF sun, though.

This was a cool idea. Police on one side, fire on the other. Of course, I couldn't tell whether the phones were for the public to call the police, or for the police to chat with, well, whoever they chat with.

The Embarcadero street follows many piers northward along the SF Bay. Then it dead ends into Jefferson, and Jefferson dead ends into a cool walking trail and a park. At the top of the park is the delicious Ghiradelli Square. Who could resist walking up the hill and checking it out?

This is Jonathan and Mommy, before the sugar rush. The square is a multi-level shopping plaza, mostly filled by different Ghiradelli shops. Upon walking into the first Ghiradelli shop, we discovered that smiling employees offered free caramel-filled chocolate squares to all visitors. Hmm. One shop. Two shops. Three shops. Floor! Who can say no to free chocolate?

Jonathan couldn't. We don't load him up with candy any other time, so we let him enjoy the free treats. There was a cute little cupcake shop in the square, too, so we had to stop there and get a couple of decadent cupcakes. All of us were a little dizzy at the end of our Ghiradelli sample parade.

Aside from taking the obligatory SF trolley picture, we spent the rest of the trip in the car. The famous SF fog had rolled over Ghiradelli and brought with it a damp chill in the air. Being acclimated to SoCal, we couldn't take the cold!

We took a trip down Lombardi street, the curviest street in the world. It was definitely curvy, and banked by skid-marked guard rails for those who thought that they could beat the five mile per hour speed limit. It was picturesque, decorated with overflowing flower beds, and lined with tourists from all over the world.

We stopped off at the Golden Gate bridge, but I'll post more on that tomorrow. Our tour finished with a trip across the Bay Bridge. The GPS made us feel like Peter walking on the water with Jesus. Only, we were in a car, not a boat. And we had a massive steel and concrete structure under us. And it wasn't stormy. And we didn't sink, or anything. But still . . . Stay tuned for more SF pics tomorrow.
