Flashback: Jonathan's Third Birthday Party

I thought I'd try to catch up on the events of the last two months. We've had a lot of fun and celebration since our last post. Jonathan turned three in November, and of course we couldn't let that go without a good celebration with family and friends. I'll cover Jonathan's actual birthday in the next post, but first it's time for a good party!

We headed north to Washington for the big party so that our families could join in (really, what's a party without our families? :)). Gamma and Gampa Holman's house was turned into Mickey's Clubhouse for a day. I'll admit that this particular birthday theme may be my favorite one we'll ever do. Mikey's like a part of the family around here! So, we set the stage for our families and friends to join the fun.
What party's complete without a bunch of sweets with a few healthy nibbles to balance them out? We had Mickey Mouse cookies, red velvet cupcakes, Mickey-shaped Oreo truffles, a variety of red and black candies, popcorn cones, our fruits and veggies, Mickey-shaped paninis, and of course an awesome cake by Uncle Gary.

To wash it all down, we had a bit of Mickey water. :)

I guess I couldn't help myself when it came to Mickey. Two banners, lots of tissue paper pom poms, party hats, little Mickey toothpicks, and more gave Jonathan and I lots to do before the party. We had so much fun getting everything ready for the celebration! And we were so excited for the big day to come.

Jonathan climbed on board Daddy's shoulders to blow out the candle on his huge and delicious cake. Cousin Eva followed up with a special present for Jonathan . . . she sang him the Happy Birthday song in Chinese. So awesome.

Jonathan and his cousin, Emily, loved riding around in his favorite present of the day (and his favorite toy every, I'm convinced) . . . his Cozy Coupe! Did you know that the Cozy Coupe has outsold every other car ever made?

He loved his birthday card from Uncle Gary . . . it sang Happy Birthday to Jonathan and he loved it (as exhibited by the 20 times in a row that he opened the card). He also loved the accompanying gift -- the space aliens from Toy Story. They glow in the dark and are just as cute as they are in the movies.

He received a very special gift from Grandma and Daddy . . . Daddy's old Fisher Price record player music box. It's not an everyday toy (see eBay for the reason why), but it is so fun to see him play with one of Daddy's old toys.

He was ready to start cooking when he opened this awesome apron and chef's hat from his Great Grandma Norma. He puts it on and pretends that he's Remy from Ratatouille. So cute.

The kids (Jonathan plus his four extended cousins) had a blast together . . . and probably ate way too much sugar. Isn't that part of what makes birthday parties so special?

By the end of the day, everyone was ready to say good-bye (and Jonathan was ready to rest . . . he actually stepped away from the crowd at one point to take a deep breath and collect his thoughts before rejoining the party). Fun was had by all, and Jonathan's Mickey Mouse birthday party is one that will always be remembered thanks to those who celebrated with us.
