Flashback: Christmas Tree Hunting

Our next stop on memory lane: hunting for our own family Christmas tree. We found a great tree farm only six miles from our house. If you don't know about where we live, we are in a nice neighborhood that just happens to be on the very edge of civilization. We're close to farm country here, so we have several tree farms in close range.

Upon arriving at the tree farm, Jonathan promptly climbed up into Santa's chair and made himself at home. Good thing Santa wasn't home at the time. After we were able to pry him out of the chair, we headed out into the fields of trees to find our tree. Jonathan took the easy route.

Until we came to the trees, that is. At that point it was time to get down and run. He checked out every tree — tall, short, wide, slim.

We walked and walked and walked . . .

And then we found it! The Cohn family 2010 Christmas tree! By far our biggest ever, she stood about nine feet tall and about six feet wide. So beautiful.

Jonathan had to check out every side of the tree before he approved.

Then it was up to daddy to get to work cutting it down. Jonathan supervised.

Great job, Daddy! (Okay, truth be told . . . Daddy was starting to cut it down when a couple of teenagers came by and offered to cut it and take it back to the parking lot for us. They were working there to raise money for their mission trip. Phew! That made everything easier!)

Looks like our work here is done! Time to go home.

Daddy gave Jonathan a ride back to the parking lot (quite a walk). The tree farm is close to a nearby lake and sits in the wetlands. It made for a beautiful setting for tree hunting. We had a great time and were home with our tree in less than two hours. Shortly after, our tree was up and Jonathan welcomed it into our home with a big hug . . . a sweet ending to a fun day.

So sweet! Okay, I am STILL holding a grudge over the fact that we didn't get a Christmas tree this year. That's probably my #1 favorite thing about the season and it just isn't the same with a WREATH, dang it! Bah humbug. 2011 will see a tree in this house if I have to go chop it myself! :-)
