October Days Are Pink Days

Happy Halloweekend! When most of us are dreaming of all things orange, I wanted to take this chance to remind you that October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. If you are one of the women in our lives, please please please make sure you do your monthly check or schedule your annual mammogram right away!

Last weekend, I had the privilege to walk in my first Race for the Cure with Jonathan's beautiful Gamma. She looks AMAZING in pink, doesn't she?

Our walk was the second annual event hosted in Eugene. It started with a wonderful tribute to the survivors participating in the walk/run (all wearing special pink shirts and hats), featuring the University of Oregon Gospel Choir. Their beautiful sounds filled the air in the festival grounds at Autzen Stadium while we celebrated the lives of all who have been impacted by this horrible disease.

The walk itself was beautiful . . . along the shores of the Willamette River, through Eugene's Alton Baker Park. It was a beautiful, crisp fall morning, and I had the perfect walking partner! She is in shape, motivated, spunky, silly, quick, and completely beautiful in pink. Gamma did an awesome job that morning!

When we crossed the finish line, Gamma's name was read over the loud speaker and the cutest little kid ran out to give her a pink carnation. What a vision in pink!

When we got home, she was greeted with kisses from Jonathan.

He even got in the spirit of the morning by stealing Gamma's "Warriors in Pink" scarf and donning his new "Real Boys are Proud to Wear Pink" shirt. He'll for sure do the walk with us next time!

All in all, it was a wonderful morning full of hope, inspiration, and fun. I am so very thankful for the work that organizations like Susan G. Komen do to advance our knowledge of breast cancer as we "race" to find a cure. My prayer is that all of this racing will pay off very soon. For now, we are all "proud to wear pink." Jonathan loves you, Gamma!
