Eugene Touch-A-Truck Event

One of the great things about this town is their amazing offering of family and children's events. A couple of weeks ago I surprised Jonathan with a particularly exciting event: Touch-A-Truck. The city-organized event gave kids the opportunity to get up close and personal with many different kinds of big rigs, construction equipment, buses, fire trucks, and more. Jonathan was in heaven! He absolutely loves anything with wheels, so this particular event fit his personality to a T.

His first stop: the fire truck.

He loved the fire truck! He loved pretending to drive it, checking out all of the buttons, levers, and anything else he could get his hands on. He looks like a pro, doesn't he?
Next up: construction trucks (otherwise known as big boy toys :)). He LOVED having a chance to get up in the backhoe
Even better? An even BIGGER big boy toy! I'm not even sure what this thing was, but it was huge and very tall! I had to lift Jonathan as high as possible and he still had three more steps to climb!
And what boy wouldn't love to be able to drive a steamroller?

Or deliver the mail?
Or drive a cement truck.
Wow, mommy! Look how big this truck is!
One of the coolest trucks we saw was a Peterbilt from the 1950s. During its time, it was used to haul tomatoes in the San Joaquin Valley in California. Jonathan loved pulling the horn, and I loved seeing an old truck that reminded me of my grandpa's trucks when I was Jonathan's age.
Times have changes since the days of the old tomato truck. Jonathan was amazed by the brand new semi and couldn't believe there was room enough for a bed!
He also loved seeing a Pepsi semi.
Even though it was just a regular pick-up truck, Jonathan was quite interested in the Forestry Service truck.

He even had a chance to try a garbage truck on for size. It was one of the more interesting trucks and he had a great time "driving" it.
Another way to help the city stay clean? Drive a street cleaner!

There were also some fun sweet treats to be had. Nancy's Creamery brought out their old ice cream trolley and gave out yogurt samples.
And who would guess what was waiting for us at the end of the moving truck trailer?

More than just blankets?

Ye! Cotton candy! Jonathan's first. He couldn't get enough!

Jonathan especially wanted to drive this truck home!
But you want to know what, out of everything at the event, brought the biggest smile to Jonathan's face?
The bus! He knew that daddy rode the bus to and from work most days, but he had never been on one. He was thrilled at the chance to even sit on it, let alone "drive" it! I couldn't believe the look on his face when he sat down in the driver's seat and thought he may be able to take it for a spin. It was priceless! A perfect end to a super fun event.
