Mother's Day

It is officially my first Mother's Day and I need to share. I can't stand it anymore... the last time I wrote anything about Jonathan was nearly a month ago because of the many events in our lives lately. However, don't let that fool you. He has been growing, hitting milestones, and changing with each day, and it's amazing to watch. What beauty lies in a life taking shape. His mommy has to share now.

I can't cover everything, but I can tell you that he's becoming a big boy. He started solid foods! We started with rice cereal, then moved on to apples, then pears, then a little taste of sweet potatoes (not interested at all), carrots (he liked, but not as much as fruit), and now bananas. He LOVES eating! Soon we'll share a video from the first time he ate. Pictures, too.

Jonathan has also come extremely mobile. He rolls everywhere! He is also up on all fours, tummy off the floor, in crawling position. He can scoot backwards, but hasn't figured out how to coordinate the arms and legs enough to move forward. Notable is his ability to assume push-up position, with only hands and toes on the floor. Where did this strength come from?! Oh, and he loves standing (and is quite the pro, I might add). In particular, he loves to stand on the bathroom countertop and look at the "other" baby in the mirror. He thinks that baby is pretty cute. :)

He also has come to love his Bumbo seat, though not for too long. He still prefers his baby papasan chair over the Bumbo, but he does like the ability to sit up for a while. Another new object of affection... a little bunny baby toy that he just loves! He crinkles, rattles, has teethers, and is soft. What more could a little boy ask for?

Even better... he loves "cupcakes." A couple of Christmases ago, my aunt gave us some silicone cupcake holders in primary colors. Well, they're very handy for baking cupcakes, but even more handy for a little baby boy who loves to stick everything he can in his mouth! He's all about his "cupcakes." He thinks they're quite tasty (boy is he in for a treat when he gets to taste the real thing!), and they're easy for him to hold and suck. So precious.

Since our last update, we've been playing with a schedule for his days. He now takes regular naps, eats at fairly regular times, and is learning to be even more sweet during the day as a result. He's more cuddly, more animated, more squirmy, more talkative, more smiley than ever. How is it even possible to love someone so much? Everyone who meets him falls in love with him and his beautiful blue eyes. He's irresistible.

Jonathan has also been to church more in the last few weeks. He actually attended a morning service and did well - although everyone around us was completely distracted by his adorable face. :) We are finally at a place where we feel like he can handle a full hour in church (well, okay, so I go to the cry room for the sermon, but that's it). Yay! We love being back.

I know that there will be more that comes to me about the last few weeks. As I remember, I will write. Also, I'm sure the lucky daddy will weigh in again soon. We're so thankful that we can share our boy with you.

ps - to the moms in our lives (esp. our own moms, but also our friends and other family members who are moms), happy Mother's Day. You are a blessing.
